CDN-Monteverde participates in the OAS General Assembly

Keeping the Nicaraguan crisis and the need to seek a civic and peaceful solution on the agenda of the countries and organizations of the region is one of the priorities of the Nicaraguan Democratic Concertation CDN-Monteverde, which is why a delegation of the platform will participate in the 54th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) to be held from June 26 to 28, 2024 in Asuncion, Paraguay.

The delegation integrated by Juan Sebastián Chamorro, Tamara Dávila, Rosalía Miller, María Laura Alvarado and Manuel Orozco, will present and update the official delegations and civil society organizations on the serious situation faced by the more than 141 political prisoners, the worsening deterioration of the institutional framework and the persistent violation of the rights of Nicaraguan citizens.

In recent months, members of the CDN-Monteverde, promoted the approval of the draft resolution that has already been accepted by the Permanent Council and will be ratified in the General Assembly. The core of the draft resolution calls for an end to impunity and the immediate and unconditional release of the people imprisoned in Nicaragua for political reasons. It also calls on member countries to take action to defend the rights of the Nicaraguan population.

“This is an opportunity for all OAS member countries to promote maximum political and humanitarian efforts to help resolve the crisis in Nicaragua. Everyone can act and we urge them to do so,” said Tamara Davila.

In parallel, the CDN-Monteverde delegation will support the efforts of the Group of Volunteer Countries to enlist the support of the international community to put an end to impunity and bring to international justice those guilty of crimes against humanity and serious human rights violations.

The CDN-Monteverde delegation hopes to influence the representatives of the OAS member countries on the urgent need to promote greater political and humanitarian actions in favor of freedom and democracy in Nicaragua.
