CDN-Monteverde condemns new electoral fraud in Venezuela by the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro

The Nicaraguan Democratic Concertation, CDN-Monteverde, condemns the new abuse of the dictatorial regime of Nicolás Maduro, who in complicity with the officials of the National Electoral Council (CNE) have colluded to ignore the triumph of democracy and the will of millions of Venezuelans who this July 28, inside and outside the country, came out to vote massively overcoming all kinds of obstacles to exercise their right to say enough is enough and choose change.

This new violation of citizens’ rights began months ago when Nicolás Maduro inhibited candidacies, arrested dozens of activists and on the day before the elections, prevented the entry and expelled from the country dozens of political leaders from various countries, to prevent them from documenting the fraud he has been carrying out, and although he has never been willing to leave power, the Venezuelan people have shown that the power is in them.

CDN-Monteverde joins millions of Venezuelans and citizens of the democratic world in demanding that the election results be respected. This electoral process is decisive for Venezuela and for the future of democracy in the rest of the continent. The international community must raise its voice and act to prevent this new fraud which, if carried out, will mean a defeat for Latin American democracy; an invitation to the emergence of new tyrannies; and a new reason to stimulate massive migration of Venezuelans.

The CDN-Monteverde expresses its solidarity and support to the Venezuelan opposition united in the Unitary Platform, especially to President-elect Edmundo González, to the leadership of Vente Venezuela headed by María Corina Machado, and to the Venezuelan people, whom we urge to continue fighting for their right to elect and to not allow this new fraud to take place.

Venezuela elected at the ballot box and the will of the people must be respected.
