The Concertación Democrática Nicaragüense-Monteverde deeply regrets the death of Dr. Carlos Tünnermann Bernheim, exemplary citizen, academic, public servant and promoter of dialogue and democracy for Nicaragua.
Dr. Tünnermann passed away at the age of 90 and dedicated a great part of his life to the construction of a free, just and democratic society. He was an arduous promoter and defender of the University Autonomy currently destroyed by the Ortega-Murillo dictatorship.
As an intellectual and member of the Nicaraguan civil society, before and after 2018 he denounced the authoritarian drift of the Ortega regime.
Dr. Tünnermann was a believer in the peaceful and civic solution to the current crisis. His participation and role in the first and second National Dialogue convened in 2018, was key to defining the direction of the talks that included the cessation of repression, respect for the powers of the State, the arrival of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), the advancement of elections and full democratization, among other issues of great transcendence.
He will continue to be an inspiration and guide in our struggle to achieve the reestablishment of democracy in Nicaragua. His legacy is a path that we will follow until we achieve freedom.
The Concertación Democrática Nicaragüense-Monteverde sends its most sincere condolences to his family, friends and all the Nicaraguan people who lost one of their most illustrious sons.
Rest in peace!
